What is Muslim Court Marriage?
Muslim Court Marriage is the process of solemnizing a marriage (Nikah) as per Islamic law (Shariah) and then registering it legally under Indian law to obtain a valid marriage certificate.

Nikah Ceremony – Performed by a Qazi with two witnesses.

Court Registration – Legal registration at the SDM office under the Special Marriage Act or local marriage registrar.

Two Muslim Witnesses with ID proof

Divorce/Death Certificate (if previously married)

Wali’s consent (for the bride, as per Islamic tradition)

Step 1: Nikah (Islamic Marriage)
Conducted by a certified Qazi in presence of bride, groom, wali (if required), and 2 witnesses.

Step 2: Nikahnama Issuance
After the Nikah, a signed Nikahnama is issued.

Step 3: Court Marriage Registration
Couples can register the marriage legally at the SDM office under:

Special Marriage Act, 1954 (for interfaith or civil legal registration)

Muslim Personal Law, in select regions (unregistered Nikah may not hold legal value in government matters)

Step 4: Marriage Certificate Issued
A government-approved certificate is issued, valid for all legal purposes (passport, visa, etc.)
